The Music Educator Award recognizes current music teachers, from kindergarten through college, in public and private schools, who have made a significant and lasting contribution to music education and who show a commitment to keeping music in schools.
Anyone can nominate a teacher: students, parents, colleagues, community members and administrators. From nearly 1,500 nominations for the 2023 award, 207 teachers from 180 cities were named quarterfinalists. I was recognized for my work as a band director at DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis.
